POSITION SUMMARY:
The Office of College Communications tells the story of ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½â€”clearly, consistently, and compellingly—to a variety of audiences. The mission of the communications office is to promote awareness and recognition of ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½ and its community of student scholars, faculty, staff, and alumnae/i.
The Multimedia Graphic Designer assists with that work within Bryn Mawr’s Office of College Communications to deliver visually creative services to a wide range of campus partners in support of strategic communications and marketing projects. They will advance the enrollment, advancement, and academic goals of the College by conceiving, designing, and implementing print and digital promotional materials. This position, which reports to the Creative Director, is a member of the Creative Services team and aims to produce compelling, innovative designs for integrated, multi-platform use across Bryn Mawr’s web, digital and print media. The Multimedia Graphic Designer helps to steward the College institutional positioning by executing high-quality design for a range of constituents, ensuring that visual content aligns with Bryn Mawr’s policies and protocols relating to visual identity, image use, and accessibility.
The Multimedia Graphic Designer creates impactful solutions that address the college’s strategic goals across various mediums—such as web, social media, video, and print—by skillfully using photography, iconography, color, illustration, and typography. The designer must be proficient in Adobe Creative Cloud, Figma, and Canva and well-versed in all facets of design, including typography, color theory, and principles and elements of design. The Designer should strive to be a source of knowledge on design trends and best practices, while collaborating with staff to develop and execute strategic solutions in design and visual communications. Position requires forward thinking, problem solving, and staying abreast of industry trends in design.
Schedule: full-time 12-month, hybrid 1-2 day per week remote/ 3-4 days on-campus work schedule, which is subject to college policy; may include evening and weekend commitments.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
35% Use knowledge of current graphic design software to produce designs for print production: such as publications, recruiting viewbooks, flyers, posters, brochures, signs, banners, direct mail, info sheets, and branded swag.
35% Support the digital strategy of the college with infographics, web graphics, UI elements, and static or animated digital ad campaigns.
10% Contribute to the art direction of a wide variety of print, graphical, photography, video, and other visual communications expressions and projects, including the Alumnae Bulletin magazine.
5% Create, maintain, and update a variety of branded Canva templates to be used by internal stakeholders for social media, posters, and digital newsletters.
5% Review requests from campus partners and work with Creative Director and communications team to determine the most desirable concept and meet the goals of each project. Work with campus partners, vendors and colleagues, to understand each project’s requirements and goals to ensure successful completion of projects.
5% Maintain the look and feel of all designs in a consistent manner, ensuring brand guidelines and directives are embraced and adhered to in all executions. Demonstrate exceptional use of typography, color theory, and principles and elements of design in all created pieces.
5% Stay current with technological advances in the field, identifying opportunities to apply them within the organization. Maintain familiarity with standard concepts, practices, and procedures, and continuously integrate innovations to enhance the quality and impact of your work.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Required: Portfolio that demonstrates a range of design deliverables across media.
- A bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university, preferably in graphic design, art, communications, or related field. Minimum 3 years of design experience, including branding, visual identity, web and digital design, and/or print design.
- Demonstrated expertise in design fundamentals for digital and print, including accessible design principles and application.
- Must be detail-oriented, able to work well under pressure, prioritize projects, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced working environment.
- The ability to think creatively and provide marketable solutions when conceiving, developing, and producing deliverables.
- Experience with online collaboration tools for project management.
- Advanced knowledge of InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Figma, and Canva. Working knowledge of After Effects and Premiere Pro preferred.
- The ability to run a project from start to finish with minimal direction or active project management oversight.
- Experience in creative services of design in a non-profit setting, especially in higher education, is preferred, as is an understanding of the Gen-Z and Gen-A audiences.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team setting.
- Ability to work on several projects at once, sometimes under pressure and often with tight deadlines.
- Experience working with print shops and promotional vendors preferred.
- Experience working with videographers to produce motion graphics and animations for their video projects preferred.
- Effective communication both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to intuitively reason, analyze information and events, and apply judgment in order to solve problems of both a routine and complex nature.
- Ability to work independently and in a team.
- Experience in editorial design preferred.
- Experience fostering a culture of innovation and efficiency.
- Experience implementing UX/UI principles and web design, as well as designing for accessibility.
- Demonstrated ability to support a community of diverse perspectives and cultures in an inclusive environment.
