Mover

ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½ has an opening for a Mover.

POSITION OBJECTIVE: Performs a variety of duties associated with physically moving or transporting equipment, furniture and other items by vehicle and by foot. Ensures performance of all duties in accordance with established procedures, methods and known safety regulations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Receives written and oral instructions to complete set-ups and breakdowns by required schedules.  Assembles and dismantles special events set-ups, as specified.
  • In coordination with the supervisor and customer, organizes and schedules work orders. Acts as liaison with customers regarding the date and time of work order completion.
  • Maintains inventory of events equipment and locations of equipment.  Coordinates the release and return of equipment.  Notifies supervisor of missing or damaged equipment, recommends replacement of equipment. 
  • Responsible for the storage, inventory, and transportation of dormitory and office
  • furniture. Maintains database of all furniture in storage.
  • Obtains and transports books between Canaday, Carpenter and Collier libraries on a weekly basis.
  • Responsible for the delivery of library books to Canaday receiving area and the return of books to Serials Department according to established bi-weekly schedule.
  • Delivers housekeeping supplies to campus buildings.
  • Moves books from main library to various libraries on campus as needed.
  • Assists other departments in transporting materials and equipment.
  • Adheres to safe practices when moving and transporting all objects. Reports unsafe conditions or the need for additional help to the supervisor so as to successfully complete assigned objectives. Recommends and may assist or conduct training of staff to ensure that the set-up and breakdown of events occurs in the safest possible manner.
  • Guides and directs the work of others including outside contractors performing the same or closely related work.
  • Performs duties associated with Utility Housekeeper as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or directed.

 

SCOPE AND COMPLEXITY:

  • Plans and arranges own work; accomplishes assigned objectives and refers unusual situations to the supervisor.
  • Work is subject to a general review.
  • Errors result in loss of time and money and may affect reputation of the College. Errors may result in a safety hazard affecting all campus constituencies.
  • Internal (College) contact involving reporting or exchange of routine information. Works closely with the College community and visitors to the College. Performs work and interacts professionally.
  • Exposure uncomfortable temperatures and frequent physical effort involving lifting of heavy objects or standing for extended periods of time.
  • Work instructions received on a daily basis from Conference & Events Office, work orders or the supervisor.
  • Work orders may be in oral or written format

SKILLS, ABILITIES, EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:

  • Valid driver's license with satisfactory driving record.
  • Ability to read and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lift weight in excess of eighty pounds
  • Ability to walk up and down steps and climb ladders.
  • Ability to work in extreme temperatures, both hot and cold.
  • Good vision and hearing; sufficient to and operate a vehicle.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Formal training in safe moving practices and practical applications. Training in use of moving equipment such as dollies, lifts, etc.
